Inaugural Ball Party Menu Ideas

Friday, January 18, 2013

We're a little excited about the Inaugural Ball right now at our house.  Actually, my daughter's class is studying government in, so they having an Inaugural Ball at her school to celebrate the Presidential Inauguration.  She has had a blast learning dances from a ballroom instructor, shopping for a ball gown, and has even enjoyed dancing with a boy for the first time (although she would certainly deny that).

To celebrate the Presidential Inauguration, I've put to together a menu for a Inaugural Ball Party.  This menu was inspired by the actual luncheon menu after Lincoln's Inauguration.  Interest in President Lincoln has recently intensified, thanks to the movie, Lincoln.   To honor the great President, I chose to modify the menu from his Inauguration.  The lunch consisted of Mock Turtle Soup, Corned Beef & Cabbage, Parsley Potatoes, and Blackberry Pie.

Never heard of Mock Turtle Soup?  I can't say it had, either.  Apparently, Turtle Soup was a fashionable dish of the upper class in British Victorian age.  Since the middle class could not afford the pricey turtle meat, they attempted to emulate the soup, using beef as a substitute.  The recipes I found remind me of vegetable beef soup.

Inaugural Ball Party Menu:

Patriotic Sangria

Reuben Dip

Mock Turtle Soup

Salted Potatoes

Blackberry Cupcakes

Are you celebrating the Presidential Inauguration?  If so, I'd love to hear how you'll be celebrating!!

That 'patriotic sangria' is perfect for a 4th of July bash, too!
